CPG Previous Case studies

  • Squad Overmatch (SOvM)

CPG researchers developed and implemented four experiential learning cases in an Eastern European scenario, so dismounted Infantry squads could receive guided-practice for self-regulation skills, warrior leader tasks, pattern recognition, and predictive analysis skills. CPG complemented these learning cases with a set of data collection instruments for determining the impacts of the training experiences on individual mental models.

  • Training Site Selection Tool for the Noncommissioned Officer Education System (NCOES)

CPG worked closely with NCO Academies and the Institute for NCO Professional Development to develop a front-end analysis methodology that aids in differentiating tasks that are optimally trained in institutional, unit, or self-study settings. The methodology was incorporated into an Excel-based Site Selection Tool, which supports individuals who are highly-skilled Soldiers but novice site selectors in considering the key factors when making site recommendations.

  • Combat Hunter

CPG field researchers observed training and participated in the course of instruction. This “Attack the Network” activity involved sensemaking in complex, adaptive settings that were characterized by a highly adaptive adversary, a rapidly evolving knowledge base, and asymmetric behaviors that make up cultural networks. Since most of the performance employed by highly skilled combat profilers involved the use of intuition, tacit knowledge, and lived experiences, CPG researchers used qualitative methods to capture the expertise and quantitative analysis to assess specific aptitudes.
