Special Operations Forces Industry Day Conference

CPG attended the 2012 Special Operations Forces Industry Day Conference’s (SOFIC) on May 21, 2012. Both Katie and Greg traveled to Downtown Tampa, FL to see the vendors and clients of Special Operations Command (SOCOM). SOFIC is the Special Operation industries’ annual conference, which focuses on advancing defense industry technology solutions and building the global SOF partnership. SOFIC is a great place for sellers and buyers to experience new technology on the market that is useful in Special Ops theater.

Speakers at the conference provided attendees with an understanding and knowledge of the current challenges, trends, and future vision for SOF’s missions. Cultural training was a common theme among these presentations. During the day Admiral McRaven discussed the future of SOCOM, while Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke at the dinner gala.

Not only were the sessions and speakers informative but the exhibit hall provided industry leaders an opportunity to discuss new technology in the special operations world.  At the exhibit hall, CPG had a chance to demo the new VBS2 software developed by Bohemia Interactive. Bohemia’s tool is on the cutting edge of what SOCOM outlined in some of their “technology needs” briefings.

The conference also provided a support structure for small businesses. This support focused on helping them gain knowledge on how small business operations work with SOCOM and how to partner with big business. The message for small business was to focus on core capabilities instead of trying to do everything to ensure they produce top quality products.

The highlight of the conference was the capabilities demonstration. Attendees were given a preview of  the CV-22 Osprey demonstrating a Fast Rope insertion and a SPIES rig extraction. An exciting twist to the demonstration was when a Chinook hovered just above the water and proceeded to pick up SEALS that were hidden just beneath the water surface!  To finish the demonstrations, the crowd witnessed a jump with 6 SO Forces parachuting right above the conference center. From thought provoking sessions to fast-action demonstrations, the SOFIC conference provided CPG a great conference experience.

Hope to see you at SOFIC next year!
